“Ironweed House”
I was walking in my Slingerlands neighborhood a few weeks ago and snapped this shot, because I couldn’t believe the agility of the roofers replacing this very steep roof. This Victorian beauty is now known as the “Ironweed House”, because it was used for some indoor shots in the movie “Ironweed”, as it still had so many original features.
Those who spent their elementary years in Slingerlands may remember this house as it looked before it’s restoration.
It sits a few doors down from the Slingerlands Methodist Church (which, by the way, now houses a doctor’s office and a few apartments). It was a dirty yellow and on most days had a pretty arthritic Great Dane sitting on the front lawn. This dog had the deepest, most frightening bark. All of us were certain that it was sure to get up, chase us down and eat us.
By the time we were in high school, the house, all but abandoned, was rumored to be haunted and I’ve heard some of you may have even broken into it.
I look forward to seeing you at our 55th, next September, to relive some fond memories. I especially look forward to seeing those who were unable to make it last time.
